How to prove what a thief stole in your apartment?

Share

I live into a gated community. I also set up secret cameras inside of my home because it makes me feel comfortable but really didn’t think I would ever capture something. I went on a little 4 day vacation. When i came back I noticed that a draw in my main room from my dresser was cracked(slightly opened). I went over a noticed when I opened it that the money I had (close to ,000) was missing. I kept this money in the home for Mr.Rainy Day money. I live in a area where my closet bank branch is 1hour and half away and I can’t get to go there so often when I need money. So that i another reason why I keep this much in the home.

I decided to review the surveillance and notice one of the maintenance guys going through the house. The surveillance cameras only point towards the door and the hallway going towards the rooms so you can see who enters what room. It shows him going into all the rooms, but I don’t have a camera in the rooms.

I have a feeling why I think this was done. I decided to pay off my lease for the year which was close to ,000 in cash, so I figure he caught wind of it. I live by myself so its not hard to know when I am not home because my vehicle is gone. Maybe I shouldn’t have paid the lease off, but I never imagine it would result in this.

I’m sure he is the one that done it because he was the only one inside the house and had no reason to go inside the bedroom or even the home. No maintenance was schedule for this place. Neither was an emergency which required them access to the place.

Should I just let this go and just know better next time because I can;t prove he stole anything by just going in the room. He can say that he just went in the room and didn’t take anything. I am sure he place it in his pocket prior to leaving the room. I’m sure the money didn’t grow legs and walked. I just feel so disappointed knowing that I pay my rent, i should be able to live in peace.

Should I let this go or go to management or the police? I can’t prove he stole anything other than coming inside the apartment when he wasn’t suppose to? What to do? Or How to prove that he stole the money?

I would see it like this……….

Yes i would make a complaint. The fact, he may not own up to it, is in effect irrelevant. The case may or may not go your way. But ultimately if the complaint is put in place. It will be followed up.

You dont know this persons history. They could very well have been accused of this before. Thus strengthening your case.

At the very least, it will make it known to this persons employers of their behaviour. so it does not happen to someone else.
