What is a good but affordable DVR?

Share

I have surveillance cameras on my home and the DVR I have now is complete garbage. I really want one that has easy to use functions and that is able to rewind and fast forward at a quick rate when viewing over recorded video footage. I would like to keep it under 0 ….Thanks

Answer

A DVR is usually used with a streaming service or over-the-air to record movies and television shows. For a Security system, you may want to look into purchasing a Network Attached Storage Device (NAS). Below I outline some tips and considerations if you really want a DVR.

While there are many DVRs to choose from, we’ve collected a few considerations when evaluating one for your situation.

  • Are you recording shows with an over the air antenna, or is it from your cable provider? DVRs are built specifically for one or the other, so make sure the DVR you choose is compatible with how you will connect it to your “reciever.”
  • How much storage will you need? Do you want to save many shows, or do you run through them quickly. More storage means more cost. There are DVRs with USB ports to allow you to transfer shows to other media.
  • Will you use your DVR to stream video, or do you already have a streaming device (such as Roku etc.)

Features to consider for your next DVR include 4K support, supporting more than one tuner, how much storage space does the DVR provide, and can you connect an external storage device to the DVR.

Cost of DVRs can vary widely, but one thing to note is there is usually a subscription fee on top of the cost of the hardware. Check to see if they offer a lifetime license, which can be more economical over the long run.

  3. All the products are really useful and provide excellent security to us. And thanks for providing all the services at reasonable cost, one can afford it from every walk.

  4. Well they are affordable alright. but are they durable too? I need to get one.

    Hi Charles,
a great way to find out about durability is to read the reviews about the DVRs you are interested in. There’s one big website that carries lots of things, and they have lots of reviews over there. Just type the model number or name of the product in the search box and you can see what people say.
