I have a friend who is going out of town and wants to leave her daughter at home by herself, but wants to put up some sort of surveillance. She wants to be able to monitor her while she is away to make sure she doesn’t have any parties or random people over. She wants to be able to log into the camera from a computer and watch the camera. Is this possible? How much does it cost? Where can she find these things?
A low-end, consumer grade, 4-camera system where the cameras are connected to a 4-channel surveillance DVR where the DVR has an ethernet port that connects to the computer network and the video is uploaded to the DVR manufacturer’s site for remote access:
each camera (camera also has zero light infrared nigh vision and is outdoor rated) x $150 = $600
surveillance DVR with 500 gig hard drive for video storage = $500
Add $ for installation (depends on the house).
Add $ if the DVR does not send the video to the manufactuer first but is displayed via remote access to the home computer network.
Subtract $ for indoor cameras.
Subtract $ for no night/dark visibility.
Add $ if "wireless" needed.
Add $ for more cameras and larger (8 or 9 channel DVR)
Add LOTS of $ if IP based cameras used rather than analog-to-DVR.
Add LOTS of $ for pan/tilt/zoom.
