I have a security camera, and I also have Directv DVR. Is there any way I can record the video surveillance on there? I am having a lot of trouble with vandalism, and when I am not home it does not help me, because I can’t record what is happening, to go back and watch who is doing it. I don’t have a lot of money to spend. Can I get some advice please? The Downey Police are not helpful.
Unfortunately, the software on your DirecTV DVR is not going to be capable of interpreting the signal from your security camera. Unlike a VCR, it’s not plug and play. However, I think you’re on the right track wanting to use a digital video recorder to capture your security footage. Tapes are unreliable and far more limited, so digital is the best way to go.
You mentioned that money was an issue and you cannot afford to spend a lot. The good news is that you can find an affordable DVR that will work with your security camera. You don’t want to run out of storage, but you can easily keep several days worth of video on a 250GB hard drive, before you’ll have to erase it.

You cannot, the DirecTV DVR has no analog inputs. It has only satellite inputs, and making satellite signal is not cheap.
