How do I record my home surveillance cameras to the internet?

Share

I know you can stream video like on Justin.tv but how would I record it so if burglars stole my computer the footage would still be on the internet?

The internet is just a network.

If the surveillance cameras are analog, then connect them to a survellance DVR that can be assigned an IP address. The surveillance DVR is the storage point and with an IP address can be accessed from computers on that LAN – or if properly set up, securely accessed from the internet.

If the surveillance cameras are IP based, then you can set up a server that stores the video on the LAN and that can be accessed from the internet.

There may be services that allow you to stream you video to their servers, but video takes LOTS of space, so expect to pay for that hard drive space. If your "DVR" is your computer, then lock the computer with a secure cable. Better yet, put it someplace that is not too obvious… or get a NAS and have the computer send the surveillance to a NAS that is physically locked up somewhere inconspicuous…
