Money has been stolen from the till on my shift, what are my options?

Share

I was working a shift on my own over the weekend whilst our tilling system was down, so manual transactions were used.
Also I used a till key to open and close the till to store the cash as the other employee’s were doing and putting the key in a small box we have near the till area. Whilst helping customers on the other side of the unit, I returned to make a sale and noticed £170 cash missing! There are 4 sides to the unit so 3 blind spots, with no cctv and nobody saw anything. Before all this happened I noticed two gents standing close by they could have seen where I was putting the till key as it wasn’t a safe place to keep it at all. But I did this because the supervisor and other staff kept it in the same small box (used to store even store keys).
Usually we would have two members of staff working that day until the manager decided we only need one member of staff.
Now I’m scheduled for a an investigation with my area manager and they are telling me I could lose my job? For what? Doing as my colleagues would have done? What are my options? Is it my fault for their lack of security we had camera’s till they were vandalised and never replaced.

i feel most comfortable working out on the floor!!

hey dont worry about losing the job over something stupid. if all goes bad and you do get fired make sure that you tell your next employer that you were fired because of unjust reasons.

    best of luck
    =)
