My mom rented a room in her house that she also lives in. These people moved in and have totally violated her home and wont move out! She has given an evitiction notice for brining in pets not agreed to on the contract, so she gave them a notice to remove pets or move. They did not do this and have now been given an eviction notice by the court. An attorney advised my mom to put nanny cams in her house in legal places and outside as well to get proof that they still have animals and to prove that these people are harassing and intimidating her. She came home and her cameras were GONE!!! They stole them!!! And i think they called the police. But can’t my mom have video surveillance in her own home as long as its not in the bathroom, or in their room? These people are mooching off her and dont even have jobs and the guy already has a criminal record. My mom is having the police come to make a report. She can have cameras on her own personal property, correct?
They already have an eviction order through the court to be out on May 18th and court date of the 13th. This is the 2nd time the guy has stollen from my mom!!!! He’s a total loser and a lodger!

I hope she gets her cameras back – that is a terrible situation to be in.
Make sure to check with police about what you are recording. When audio is recorded alongside video, it can be considered a wiretap and require a warrant. Video without sound is OK as long as you are not breaching privacy laws.
I wish it were as easy as calling the cops and having them escort the people off the property. But sadly the justice system is so screwed up that you can’t do that. She can have cameras wherever she wants as long as it’s not in a bathroom or bedroom. And now they are stealing so that’s another thing for court. They will eventually get kicked out and I hope for your mom that it is soon.
of course she can, and you are right as long as they are not posted in personal areas. doesnt necessarily mean that it can be used in court but thats up to the judge. as far as proving the pets are still in there she can just video tape the animals. she doesnt have to have nanny cams, its not as difficult as she thinks.
