    Generally "analog" cameras record directly to some kind of tape machine.

    Digital cameras (actually analog cameras that send the signal through an analog to digital converter) are used when the camera is writing to a digital device, like a hard drive or being used as an IP camera.

    You can see an example of that on the Autodome 200 series camera it has an optional hybrid operation that provides simultaneous analog (coax) and IP (MPEG-4) connectivity
